What is Software Activation?

Software Activation and Activation Identifier

The Goals of Software Activation
  • Activation process is an integral part of License Management System; it is a mandatory process that (i) associates the installation and use of the Aabel NG licenses (the "Software") to the authorized number of computers ("Licensed Computers"), and (ii) monitors compliance with the Software end user license agreement (the "Software EULA"), by:
    • Verifying that the Software has been legitimately licensed
    • Identifying and reducing a form of piracy known as "softlifting", which is characterized by the sharing of the Software between people in a way that infringes on the Software EULA
    • Detecting and preventing other unauthorized use of the Software (e.g., using the Software on a service bureau basis, etc.)
Machine-Specific Activation Identifier
  • When one activates the Software on a computer, a "fingerprint" code will be generated, which represents the machine hardware specifications linked to one's license-specific registration code (serial number).
    • This fingerprint code will be kept in the License Manager System as the identifier of that computer (the "Licensed Computer").
  • For security reasons, activating the Software is possible ONLY from the licensee side. The same applies to deactivating the Software.
How to Activate the Software?
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Launch the application and in the displayed registration dialog, input your information and registration code (serial number) in the editing field provided.
  • To proceed with activation, click the "Activate" button. Once the activation is completed a confirmation message will be displayed.

Software Deactivation

What is Deactivation?
  • Deactivation means releasing a license entitlement from a Licensed Computer.
  • Why and when to deactivate?
    • Once the number of activations permitted by the Softwate EULA is reached, if one decides to replace an old Licensed Computer by a new machine, one must deactivate* the Software ONLINE on the former computer before activating it on the latter one.
    • Important Note: Uninstalling/deleting the Software package from a computer is not the same as deactivating it. The latter releases a license from a Licensed Computer; the former does NOT.
    • You may not use deactivation and re-activation for unauthorized installation and use of the Software in a way that infringes on the Software EULA.
  • For security reasons, deactivating the Software is possible ONLY from the licensee side. The same applies to activating the Software.
How to Deactivate the Software?
  • To deactivate the Software on a Licensed Computer, follow the steps outlined below:
    • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
    • Launch the application without opening any of its documents, and from the menu bar, choose Help > Deactivate...
    • In the displayed Deactivation dialog, insert your registration code (serial number) in the editing field provided, and click the "Deactivate" button.
    • Once the deactivation is completed a confirmation message will be displayed, and the application will automatically close.

Authorized Number of Installations and Activations

(a) Individual-User License Permitted Number of Installations and Activations

The licensee of a Individual-User License is a named individual who is identified as the registered end-user of the Software ("You").

  • (a1) You may install, activate and use a copy of the Software on 1 (one) primary compatible computer (Primary Licensed Computer) for your exclusive use. To provide convenience for traveling or working at home, You may also install and use a second copy of the Software on 1 (one) personal laptop computer (Secondary Licensed Computer), provided that You are the sole user of each of the two copies.
  • (a2) You shall not share the Software between people (e.g., colleagues, students, etc.) at any time or for any purpose. Doing so would constitute unauthorized use of the Software and a breach of the Software EULA.
  • (a3) You shall not attempt repeated deactivation and re-activation for installation and use of the Software in a way that infringes on the Software EULA. Doing so would constitute unauthorized use of the Software and a breach of the Software EULA.
  • (a4) To replace an existing Licensed Computer with a new machine requires that You first deactivate the software ONLINE on the former computer before activating it on the new one (review Software Deactivation: why, when, and how to deactivate?).
  • (a5) The time-limited complimentary technical support of the product requies resistering the license for technical support purposes.
(b) One-Seat (1-Seat) Workgroup License Permitted Number of Installations and Activations

The licensee of a 1-Seat Workgroup License is single entity (i.e., organization, educational institution, business, government, or umbrella organization) ("You").

  • (b1) You may install and use the Software on 1 (one) organizationally owned on-site computer (Licensed Computer).
  • (b2) You shall not make the Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time; a seat is licensed as a single product that (i) shall not be shared concurrently, (ii) shall not be installed or used on more than one (1) computer/device, and (iii) shall not be used by more than 1 (one) permitted individual ("Authorized User") at a time. Authorized Users are employees or students permitted by You to use the Software under the terms of the Software EULA
  • (b3) You shall not, nor permit any person (including any Authorized User) to attempt repeated deactivation and re-activation for installation and use of the Software in a way that infringes on the Software EULA. Doing so would constitute unauthorized use of the Software and a breach of the EULA.
  • (b4) To replace an existing Licensed Computer with a new machine requires that You first deactivate the software ONLINE on the former computer before activating it on the new one (review Software Deactivation: why, when, and how to deactivate?).
  • (b5) You are required to have 1 (one) named individual as your authorized representative to register and manage the license. The time-limited complimentary technical support of the product will be limited to the identified authorized representative.
(c) Five-Seat (5-Seat) Workgroup License Permitted Number of Installations and Activations

The licensee of a 5-Seat Workgroup License is single entity (i.e., organization, educational institution, business, government, or umbrella organization) ("You").

  • (c1) You may install and use the Software on up to 5 (five) organizationally owned on-site computers at a single location (Licensed Computers).
  • (c2) You shall not make the Software available over a network where a seat could be used by multiple computers at the same time; each seat is licensed as a single product that (i) shall not be shared concurrently, (ii) shall not be installed or used on more than one (1) computer/device, and (iii) shall not be used by more than 1 (one) permitted individual ("Authorized User") at a time. Authorized Users are employees or students permitted by You to use the Software under the terms of the Software EULA.
  • (c3) You shall not, nor permit any person (including any Authorized User) to attempt repeated deactivation and re-activation for installation and use of the Software in a way that infringes on the Software EULA. Doing so would constitute unauthorized use of the Software and a breach of the Software EULA.
  • (c4) To replace an existing Licensed Computer with a new machine requires that You first deactivate the software ONLINE on the former computer before activating it on the new one (review Software Deactivation: why, when, and how to deactivate?).
  • (c5) You are required to have 1 (one) named individual as your authorized representative to register and manage the license. The time-limited complimentary technical support of the product will be limited to the identified authorized representative.
