Wind Rose Module (Using Raw Wind Data)

Defining Characteristics

  • Average wind direction and wind speed values are logged at a site, at short intervals, over a period of time.
  • Wind roses project a large quantity of data in a simple graphical plot that summarize the occurrence of winds, showing their speed, direction and frequency in a polar coordinate grid.
  • The central circle represents the calm conditions and its diameter is calculated as (percent calm observations) / (number of direction bins). The remaining grid circles are spaced from the circumference of the calm circle.
Wind Rose Plot Options

Wind Direction Labeling:

  • Compass labelling
  • Φ labeling.

Compass Labeling Interval

  • 22.5°, 45°, 90°

Φ Bin-Width

  • Compass labelling
  • Φ labeling.

Compass Labeling Interval

  • The conventionally used number of rose spokes are 8 and 16; in Aabel, you can select between nine different options by selecting one of the Φ bin-width options, including:
    • 10°, 20°, 22.5°, 30°, 40°, 45°, 60°, 72°, 90°.

Other Options

  • Transforming data into percentage
  • Generating a table of calculated frequencies
